8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2012 Hyundai Elantra?
The NHTSA records we reviewed list 10 recall notices affecting Elantra-family components in these files; they cover wheel, suspension, engine, seat, power steering, brake, air bag and sunroof components. These notices include wheel lug nut and lower control arm fastener issues that can allow parts to detach, piston ring/engine damage that can cause stalls or fire risk, improperly welded seat recliners, power steering connector failure, brake booster failures, air bag inflator or deployment missing-chemical issues, and panoramic sunroof motor programming defects. All of the recalls referenced here come from NHTSA records; if you own a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, bring your VIN to Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, CO so our factory-trained technicians can confirm which notices apply and perform any required free repairs.
How do I check if my 2012 Hyundai Elantra has an open recall?
You can check your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring your VIN to Arapahoe Hyundai and we will check for free. NHTSA provides a VIN lookup tool that lists open recalls; alternatively our service team will run the VIN through Hyundai’s dealer portal and confirm any open campaigns at no charge. If you prefer an in-person check, schedule service online and we will inspect your vehicle, provide written confirmation of open recalls, and advise next steps.
How much does a 2012 Hyundai Elantra recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are performed at no cost to the vehicle owner. If your 2012 Hyundai Elantra is subject to a Hyundai recall, Arapahoe Hyundai will perform the required repair using OEM parts and factory-trained technicians free of charge as required by the manufacturer and NHTSA. For non-recall maintenance or additional repairs we offer service specials and service financing; check our service specials or contact us to learn about payment options.
Can I get my 2012 Hyundai Elantra recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be completed by an authorized dealer to ensure OEM parts and manufacturer records are properly updated, and Arapahoe Hyundai provides that certified service locally. While independent shops can perform many repairs, only a franchise dealer will have direct access to Hyundai recall parts, manufacturer service procedures, and the ability to close the recall record with the manufacturer’s system. For guaranteed, documented, and free recall repairs, contact Arapahoe Hyundai to schedule service with our factory-trained technicians who use Hyundai-approved diagnostics and OEM parts.
How long does a 2012 Hyundai Elantra recall repair take?
Most recall repairs take from under an hour to a full day depending on parts availability and the component; some engine-level replacements may require longer service time. For example, fastener inspections and re-torquing (wheel lug nuts or ball joint fasteners) are typically short visits, while an engine replacement or full module swap may require parts ordering and longer shop time. To minimize disruption, schedule service with Arapahoe Hyundai and we will provide an estimated turnaround based on the specific recall and current parts status; we also list current offers under service specials.
Does an open recall affect my 2012 Hyundai Elantra's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can reduce buyer confidence and may negatively affect trade-in or resale value, because many buyers and dealers check NHTSA recall status before purchase. Having recalls repaired at Arapahoe Hyundai protects value by documenting factory-complete service with OEM parts; we can also provide a repair receipt showing the recall was closed, which many buyers and trade evaluators prefer. If you’re considering selling or trading, visit our trade appraisal page at value your trade after repairs to get the most accurate offer and avoid last-minute price reductions due to open recalls.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2012 Hyundai Elantra recall?
Most states don’t fail a vehicle solely for an open recall, but safety-related recalls (brakes, steering, airbags) can affect roadworthiness and could lead to failed inspections if the defect causes a functional safety issue. Because several of the recalls in these records impact braking, steering, air bag deployment, and wheel attachment, it’s important to resolve open recalls promptly to avoid inspection or insurance complications. If you have inspection concerns, contact Arapahoe Hyundai and we will inspect your vehicle, document any open recalls from NHTSA records, and help you schedule service to address required repairs; we also offer service financing if you need flexible payment options.
