The NHTSA has issued 4 recalls affecting the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: three air bag-related recalls and one rear suspension/differential recall. Air bag recalls include a passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) connector that can dislodge and a driver air bag mounting bolt issue; the rear suspension recall can allow differential bolts to loosen on some manual-transmission models, potentially causing a loss of propulsion. Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe recall?

If you have concerns about inspection or insurance implications, contact Arapahoe Hyundai and schedule service so our certified technicians can confirm and repair recalls at no charge.
Safety Risks You Can't Ignore
The 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe faces real safety issues that should be addressed immediately. Specifically, three air bag recalls affect the Occupant Classification System (OCS) connector and driver air bag mounting bolts; the OCS connector can dislodge when the passenger seat is moved, which may cause only the first stage of the passenger air bag to deploy when full deployment is required, increasing the risk of injury. Another air bag recall concerns driver-side air bag mounting bolts that may be insufficiently tightened and could allow the air bag to detach. Separately, a rear suspension/differential recall affecting some manual-transmission models can allow differential bolts to loosen, potentially disconnecting the driveshaft and causing loss of propulsion. Ignoring these recalls risks occupant safety, insurance complications, and diminished resale value. Arapahoe Hyundai’s factory-trained technicians prioritize safety: we inspect, secure, and repair recall items using OEM parts so your vehicle leaves our shop restored to manufacturer standards. Please schedule service today — recall repairs are free and critical for your safety.

Defect

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Genesis Coupe vehicles manufactured December 12, 2008, to June 11, 2016. The electrical harness connector for the front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) may dislodge when the seat is moved.

Consequence

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, the disconnected OCS would, by default, cause the first stage, and only the first stage, of the air bag to deploy, whether there is a child seat in the front seat and the bag should not deploy or if the crash is severe and both stages should deploy. Either scenario increases the risk of injury to the front seat occupant.

Corrective Action

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will secure the OCS connector to prevent it from disconnecting, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 2, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 151.
