The NHTSA has 21 recall entries in its records related to Santa Fe family vehicles that apply to or are relevant for the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe. These recalls cover components including hood latch cables (corrosion that can allow the hood to open), ABS module brake fluid leaks (possible electrical short and fire risk), seat belt buckle wiring and anchor bolts (seat belt warning or anchor failure), accessory trailer wiring (constant brake light), TPMS sensors, engine crankshaft issues on some 3.3L engines, air bag and curtain concerns, front coil springs, and steering/steering wheel assembly problems. How do I check if my 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe has an open recall?
Use your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring the vehicle to Arapahoe Hyundai for a free dealer VIN check; this provides an authoritative answer immediately. You can also call Hyundai customer service numbers listed in NHTSA notices, but the fastest local option is to schedule service with Arapahoe Hyundai and we will verify recalls, explain any required repairs, and reserve time with our factory-trained technicians. Checking at a certified dealer ensures recall repairs are performed free of charge with OEM parts and documented correctly for safety and resale value.
How much does a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe recall repair cost?
Manufacturer recall repairs are free of charge to the vehicle owner and are performed at no cost when completed by an authorized dealer. Arapahoe Hyundai is a factory-authorized Hyundai dealer and provides free recall repairs using OEM parts and factory-trained technicians; if additional unrelated repairs are requested we offer transparent estimates and service financing through our service department.
Can I get my 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Recall repairs must be performed through an authorized dealer to ensure free manufacturer remedies and proper use of OEM parts and documented warranty coverage. Independent shops cannot always access factory tools, software updates, or manufacturer-supplied recall parts in the same way a franchise dealer can; for your safety and to preserve manufacturer coverage, contact Arapahoe Hyundai to schedule service with certified technicians.
How long does a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe recall repair take?
Most recall repairs are completed in one visit; specific times depend on the recall type (simple part replacement versus module or engine work). For example, hood latch cable replacements or wiring harness swaps are often completed in a few hours, while engine replacement or ABS module swaps may require longer scheduling — our team will provide an estimated turnaround when you schedule appointment. Arapahoe Hyundai offers convenient service hours, service specials (service specials), and service financing so you can get required recall work done now and pay later if needed.
Does an open recall affect my 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe's trade-in or resale value?
Yes—an unresolved recall can negatively affect trade-in and resale value because dealers and buyers often check NHTSA and manufacturer records before purchase. Resolving recalls at a certified dealership like Arapahoe Hyundai protects resale value, documents completed factory repairs, and simplifies trade-in; you can start a valuation at our trade-in page: value your trade.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe recall?
Some recalls affect safety systems that can lead to inspection failures depending on state requirements; it depends on the specific recall and inspection criteria. If a recall involves seat belts, airbags, brakes, TPMS, or steering, it may impact inspection outcomes; bring your vehicle to Arapahoe Hyundai and we will check your VIN and advise whether a recall repair is needed prior to your next inspection.

Defect

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.

Consequence

If the hood is not securely closed or the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Corrective Action

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 30, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.
