Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2020 Hyundai Accent?
The NHTSA has issued 1 recall related to the air bag occupant detection system that can misidentify a child restraint in very cold temperatures. This recall affects the air bag occupant detection (ODS) system originally reported for certain 2015 Hyundai Accent vehicles; Arapahoe Hyundai verifies NHTSA records for your specific VIN and will confirm if your 2020 Hyundai Accent requires any action. All recall repairs identified through NHTSA are performed free of charge at our certified dealership; to book, schedule service online or call our service team in Centennial, CO.
How do I check if my 2020 Hyundai Accent has an open recall?
You can check an open recall by entering your VIN at NHTSA.gov or bring your vehicle to Arapahoe Hyundai and we will check the manufacturer database free of charge. If you prefer immediate assistance, call our service department and we will confirm recall status using OEM diagnostic tools and manufacturer databases while you wait. If a recall is open we’ll notify you of the repair details and can schedule service at no cost; we also offer service financing through our manufacturer-backed options so you can get any non-recall work done now and pay later.
How much does a 2020 Hyundai Accent recall repair cost?
Recall repairs mandated by the manufacturer and NHTSA are performed free of charge to the owner. The corrective action for the reported air bag ODS issue is a software update to the occupant detection system; Hyundai covers parts and labor for recalls, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for that repair. If additional non-recall maintenance is desired at the same visit, ask about our current service specials and service financing to make combined visits convenient and affordable.
Can I get my 2020 Hyundai Accent recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be completed by a certified franchise dealer to ensure OEM parts, original software, and warranty compliance; Arapahoe Hyundai is a certified Hyundai dealer and is qualified to perform all Hyundai recall work. Independent shops cannot always access manufacturer software updates or official parts required for some recalls; using a certified dealer protects your vehicle’s warranty, resale value, and safety compliance. To ensure a proper, documented repair done with factory tools and training, schedule service at Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, CO, and we’ll perform the recall repair free of charge.
How long does a 2020 Hyundai Accent recall repair take?
Most recall repairs such as the ODS software update take between 30 minutes and a few hours, depending on shop workload and parts availability. Arapahoe Hyundai maintains OEM diagnostic tools and factory-trained technicians to complete recall work efficiently; when you arrive we’ll provide an estimated completion time and options for shuttle service or a loaner if available. To minimize time in the shop, please schedule appointment in advance and review current service specials that may apply.
Does an open recall affect my 2020 Hyundai Accent's trade-in or resale value?
An unresolved recall can negatively influence buyer confidence and reduce trade-in value, because many dealers and private buyers check NHTSA records prior to purchase. Resolving recalls at a certified dealership like Arapahoe Hyundai documents completed repairs, preserves resale value, and protects you from potential insurance or inspection complications. If you’re preparing to sell or trade, use our online appraisal tool to value your trade after recall repairs; completed recalls can improve offers and accelerate sale processes.
Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2020 Hyundai Accent recall?
State inspection rules vary by state, but unresolved safety recalls can be considered when a vehicle fails to meet safety standards and may affect registration or inspection outcomes in some jurisdictions. Arapahoe Hyundai recommends resolving any open recalls promptly to avoid potential inspection, insurance, or legal complications; our team in Centennial, CO can confirm NHTSA status and perform required repairs free of charge. To avoid inspection delays, schedule service and let our factory-trained technicians document the completed recall for your records.

Defect

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2015 Accent vehicles manufactured September 15, 2014, to February 10, 2015. In very cold temperatures, the occupant detection system (ODS) may not be able to determine if a child restraint seat is in the front passenger seat.

Consequence

If the ODS fails to detect that the seat is occupied by a child restraint seat, the front air bag will not be deactivated and, in the event of a crash necessitating front air bag deployment, the air bag deployment could cause increased risk of injury to the occupant in the child restraint seat.

Corrective Action

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will correct ODS software, free of charge. The recall began on June 4, 2015. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 129.
